My wife slept with another man’

A  security man, Mr. Ojo Joseph,  has told an Oshodi Grade ‘B’ Customary Court, Lagos, how he caught his wife, Bola, sleeping with another man in her parents’ house.

 “I do not want her anymore as my wife. I caught my wife sleeping with another man in her parents’ house,”Joseph had said.

Joseph asked the court to dissolve their 19-year-old marriage on account of the wife’s alleged adulterous act and other irreconcilable differences.

Bola, 38, owned up to a relationship with another man.

She said, “I do not feel loved and cared for again and that is why I decided to date another man who has accepted to take care of me.

“I, therefore, want the marriage dissolved so that I can re-marry someone who loves me and I also want the custody of my children.

“Since my husband joined a violent socio-cultural group sometimes in 2008, he had abandoned me and devoted much of his time to the activities of the group.

“He hardly comes home to perform his duties as a father and a husband as he was virtually living at the group’s office. At a time I started taking his meals to him over there.”

She added that his membership of the group also posed a lot of danger to her.

 “There are times the group would clash and a rival group would come to our house to threaten us and even damage our property,” Bola said.

The estranged couple got married in 1993 according to traditional customs and the union was blessed with three children.

The court’s acting President, Mrs. R.I. Adetola, ruled that Ojo and his estranged wife were free to go their separate ways.

“Since both parties have agreed to the dissolution, coupled with the fact that they have been separated for over one year and the appeal for settlement has fell on deaf ears, the court hereby dissolves the marriage,” Adetola said.

Adetola, while delivering judgment, referred the parties to the family court for decision on the custody of the children since they failed to agree on who to be the custodian.

She added that any aggrieved party could appeal the judgment within the next 30 days.

The tussle for religious supremacy; Which way out

The tussle for religious supremacy is as old as the world.christianity, islam, hinduism, judaism, traditional religions to mention but a few. All these religions have in one way or the other produced other bodies that have once tried to establish as a religion of its own but many have failed , some established themselves as religious sects. Though there exist all these religions and each have its unique mode of worship they all claim to worship the supreme God. From evidence it can be established that they all worship a god but the confusing issue is the difference in their mode of worship. But why all these differences.      Using Nigeria as a case of study where we have three main religions;the christians, the muslems and the traditional religion with the tussle more pronounced between the christians and the muslems with both claiming that their own mode of worship is the ultimate. The christians believe that jesus is the mediator between God and man that he he came to the earth and died on the cross, was buried and resurrected on the third day to reconcile man who have wondered away from the path of truth back to god his creator while the Muslims believe that it only through mohamed that you can reach God. the believe that mohamed was sent to the earth by god to bring salvation and peace to mankind. as a result of these different in believe the country have always been thrown off balance when both regions clash in a battle of supremacy with both calling on the other to forsake their own religion and join theirs, with the recent boko haram bombings the most pronounced of religions tussle for supremacy in the country. the big question mark in the tussle is since the life and massege of both jesus christ and mohamed preach peaceful co-existence between one and another why then do we fight the battle of the gods.
what then can we do to stop this menace that have surged deep into the social, political and economic life of this Nigeria?  your suggestion can go a long way in bringing solution to this.

South east presidency may have to wait till 2027

IF current permutations are anything to go by, the South-East geo-political zone, which is considered as the country’s most socio-economic and politically marginalised area may not produce the President of Nigeria until 2027.
This is contrary to an alleged agreement between leaders of the zone and President Goodluck Jonathan that the South-East would produce the President in 2015.
The said agreement informed the block votes the region gave Jonathan at the 2011 polls. In consonance with the pact, the zone refused to vie for the positions of the president and vice president at the last election and threw its weight behind President Jonathan, who scored more than 95 per cent of valid votes cast in the South-East during the elections. South-Easterners in other parts of the country also toed the same line.
The move was also tailored to end mutual distrust and cement South-South and South-East relations following fissures and cracks created by the civil war of 1967-70.
Giving the thick and yet to be dispelled speculations that Jonathan will stand for a re-election in 2015, his endorsement by South-South leaders, vow by the North to reclaim the top seat, bold moves by the two camps to realise their quests and perceived unpreparedness on the part of the South-East, the Igbo-speaking zone may have to wait till 2027 to take its turn at Aso Rock.
According to permutations, the earliest time the South-East can get the presidency is 2023 if Jonathan did not run or 2027 if he ran.
How? If Jonathan quits or fails win rerun in 2015, power may move northwards and rotate to the South in 2023 after eight years. But if Jonathan runs and gets a second term of four years in 2015, he will quit in 2019.
Thereafter, power will rotate to the North for eight years and may move to the South in 2027 when the South-East will be in a vantage position to claim the slot because it would the only zone out of the three in the South remaining to produce the president.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo of the South-West was in-charge between 1999 and 2007 after ruling as military head of state, 20 years earlier. President Jonathan is from Bayelsa State in South-South zone.
Thus, the South-East can only render these permutations meaningless by getting its acts together, strategising and snatching power in 2015. Whether or not the zone can do these is to be seen.
Jonathan’s push
Already, Jonathan’s kinsmen are pressuring him to run again contrary to his declaration that he would run for only one term and hand over in 2015.
At a gathering in Lagos last week, prominent Ijaw leaders and South_South elders such as National Security Adviser, General Andrew Azazi;  Ijaw Leader Chief Edwin Clark; Niger Delta Volunteer Force Leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo; Special adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku; Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources Dr. Godknows Igali; pioneer President of Ijaw Youth Council, Dr. Felix Tuodolo; oil magnate Mr. Dumo Briggs; NIMASA Director_General Mr. Ziakede Akpobolokemi; and ex_militant Ateke Tom, among others, reportedly expressed worry over Jonathan’s declaration in early 2011 that he would not re-contest.
Noting that there was a compelling need to get the president to change his stance so as not to mortgage the opportunity of the South-South to enjoy eight years  presidency and given that “Jonathan is the only person in the South-South who could run and win the presidential election in 2015,” the leaders agreed that there was the need for all Niger Deltans to rally round Jonathan  to ensure his re-election in 2015.
In the last couple of weeks, a host of South-southerners have been saying that Jonathan have the constitutional right to go for re-election and should do so irrespective of any pre-election agreement.
Indeed, a  former president of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), the umbrella body of all Ijaws in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, Joshua Fumudoh, reportedly said it would said it would be against the principle of fairness, equity and natural justice not to allow the South-South to complete its eight years tenure, adding that Jonathan’s promise then to do one term was meant to douse tension in the land.
North talks tough, insists on 2015
However, the North, embittered that it lost two years of its first four-year tenure to the South-South following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2009 and failed to stop Jonathan from being elected in line with the PDP zoning formula, is determined to fight for the presidency with all its might in 2015.
Two northern leaders, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai and Alhaji Lawal Kaita, picked holes in the South-South leaders’ stance and vowed that the North would oppose it.
Said Kaita, a former governor of old Kaduna State:  “We hear rumours all over that Jonathan is planning to contest in 2015. Well, the North is going to be prepared if the country remains one. That is, if the country remains one, we are going to fight for it. If not, everybody can go his way.”
On his part, Yakasai said, “what brought about the endorsement of Jonathan at this material time when the man himself stated that he is not contesting in 2015 and has halted all talks regarding 2015?”
Igbo leaders consult
Contacted on the issue, Igbo and South-East leaders were not as forceful as their opponents. Most of them said they were still consulting and would come out with a collective position after the wide consultations.

Can tell KWARA state government ;do not demolish church property

he Christian Association of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, has petitioned Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed against the demolition of a church property.

The property belongs to the Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel, Sango, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Also, the Youth Wing of CAN in the state has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed and well-meaning residents of the state to prevent a seeming unrest in the state.

The Province Pastor of the church, Chris Osiberu, had on March 24, during a news conference, alleged that some members of the Ajegunle community in Sango destroyed the fence, shopping complex and some building materials at the church’s new site at Ajegunle, Kulende, Old Jebba Road, Sango.

He said the money stolen from the contractors and workers on site and the destroyed church property and building materials was estimated at N78.3m.

In a statement signed by the state’s CAN chairman, Dr. James Folaranmi, and secretary, Rev. C.O.S. Fawenu, which was made available to journalists on Thursday, CAN said it was disappointed that the culprits had not been arrested, detained or prosecuted.

The Christian body regretted that instead, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chinwike Asadu, summoned CAN to a meeting and conveyed to the body a ‘stop work’ resolution of the Kwara State Security Council.

The statement read, “The Kwara State CAN has, however, met to review the situation and found the purported ‘stop work’ order unconstitutional and objectionable. We also note that the ‘stop work’ order amounts to usurping the responsibilities of the court since the matter is already before a court of law.

“As citizens of this state and Nigeria, we expect the government agencies concerned to provide full security at the sight as any attempt by anybody or group to stop the work will be resisted.”

The letter was copied to the Deputy Governor, General Secretary, National CAN; Northen states CAN, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Commandant, Sobi Barracks; Director of State Security Service, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter; Presiding Bishop, Living Faith Church, World Wide and Bishop David Oyedepo; Chairman, Kwara State Committee on Religious Matters.

The Youth Wing in their letter said they considered the alleged action as an affront and highly provocative.

They alleged that a prominent traditional ruler in the state was using his influence to make the government relocate the church, adding that this move was seen as a slap on the face of the Christian community in the state.

“Known to us is that the government of Kwara State and the State Security Council are trying to stop the construction of the church for which town planning approval had been obtained.

“We are aware that the SSS and the state command of the Nigeria Police, who are also part of the State Security Council, have at various times been involved in the matters that are surrounding the legal acquisition of the land on which the church is being built and have jointly agreed with all parties concerned that work should go on the church building, more so that a high court had dismissed a suit filed to stop the project.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ezekiel Dabo, said the police were not biased in handling the matter.

He stated that the command was doing everything to maintain peace and ensure amicable resolution of the matter.

Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Media and Communication, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Thursday, said the state government gave the ‘stop work’ order to pave the way for an amicable resolution of the matter.

He stated that the youths, who were allegedly involved in the demolition of the church property, had been arrested.

He added that the government was not taking side with any religion but would be firm and fair to all religions in the state and ensure justice and equity.

He said, “The land was originally acquired for the FG by the state government to construct a NITEL facility. When NITEL was wound up, a certain man who is a member of the church bought the land and subsequently passed it to the church.

“Community members protested that if the land was no longer going to be used for the NITEL project, it should be reverted to them and not sold to an individual who would have to pass it over to the church.”

We escape justice through bribes –Suspected robbers

A suspected member of a notorious gang of robbers believed to be responsible for many armed robbery attacks in Lagos has opened up on the strategies being adopted by criminals to evade punishment in the state.
Tunde Oyebande, 46, who was a furniture maker and dealer in aluminum products, was arrested by a team of policemen from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ikeja after a gunfight in the Abule-Egba area of the state.
We learnt that the suspect was part of a gang that allegedly gathered recently on Ikoro Road in preparation for a robbery operation in a yet-to-be-determined  part of Lagos.
Unknown to the gang, the police were already aware of their plans. Acting quickly,  the police had raided the hideout of the suspected criminals.
In desperation, members of the gang engaged the policemen in a shootout. Oyebande was arrested, even as three others managed to escape.
Describing the circumstances that led to the routing of the gang, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umaru Manko, told our correspondent that his men were led to the suspected robbers’ hideout by a girlfriend of one of them.
He said, “A gun fight had ensued when the robbers opened fire on the police. Three persons escaped, but Oyebande, who tried to escape in his Danfo bus, was caught.
“Several guns were recovered from the bus, including an AK 47 rifle, which was assigned to the late Cpl. Idowu Ohiolebo, who was killed by the same gang at Igando in 2010 during a robbery. A pistol was also recovered from them. It was assigned to the late Inspector Ibrahim Ahmed, who was killed during a robbery at Oshodi last year.”
