protester seek compensation

One of the protesters, who barricaded Olaiya Junction in Osogbo, Osun State capital, during the protest against fuel subsidy removal last January, Mrs. Olanipekun Olayinka, has dragged the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to court.

Olayinka, in a statement of claim made available to The PUNCH via an email on Sunday, alleged that a vehicle in the convoy of the former state governor, which rode past the junction during the protest, hit her.

According to the statement of claim filed before an Osogbo High Court, Olayinka alleged that Oyinlola sped past the junction while a coalition of civil societies held a rally at the junction on January 9, 2012.

The suit with No: HOS/ 35/2012 claimed N20, 000, 000 damages even as it sought the court to declare that the action of the former governor was aimed at causing a breach of public peace.

Olayinka also urged the court to order Oyinlola to pay N200,000 as cost of medical expenses incurred by her, adding that attempts made to serve Oyinlola the process had proved futile.

She alleged that while the rally was in progress, Oyinlola rode past in a convoy of three cars namely a Toyota Hilux, a sport car driven by the former governor, and a Toyota Camry car with number plate AG 437 DTN.

Reacting, the Chairman, Osun PDP, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, debunked the claim that Oyinlola deliberately ran into protesters on the fateful day.
